Cappadocia Trip
One of our favorite sightseeing events for incoming students.... The Yeditepe University International Student Society (YISS) organizes a trip to the world's natural wonder in Central Anatolia. It is unique with its underground cities - early human settlements were constructed in the volcanic rocks.
Cappadocia is also one of the most important religious retreats for the first Christians escaping from the Roman soldiers. You can visit many cave churches with painted frescoed walls carved out of the soft rocks formed by the volcanic eruptions during ancient times.
Our incoming students enjoy exploring the cave houses, fairy chimneys, the Göreme Open Air Museum, and the hot air ballons in Cappadocia. The Ihlara Valley, pottery and ceramic workshops, wine tasting in the wine factory are also some of the places we visit on our way; a true cultural experience for our incoming students.

2012 International Day
Our International Day - an annual event which takes place just before our Spring Fest is the best activity to introduce our Partner Universities to Yeditepe students.
Our international students are the excellent "educational and cultural ambassadors" of their home countries and home institutions.
A daily Turkish newspaper has made a news coverage of our international day 2012, and our international students were on headlines of its academic supplement. (see photo below)
Many of our partner universities contribute to our International Day with their promotional materials, posters, and brochures. We greatly appreciate them all for sharing their materials with us.
Of course, special thanks to our incoming students for their time and effort in representing their schools and countries and preparing some typical national foods and dishes to share with their new friends...

Getting around is part of the fun! –a kaleidoscope of historical palaces, ancient bazaars, the Blue Mosque, Saint Sophia, old Turkish houses in Gülhane... The Bosphorus cruise guided by our Yeditepe Buddy Group is the most exciting event for our new international students and also a wonderful setting for student interaction.

Excursion to Cumalıkızık Village and Bursa
International students always enjoy our organized trip to the Bursa Province which is truly a cultural experience in a historical setting. Our first visit is to an 800 year-old Ottoman village located at the foot of Mount Uludağ, near the city center of Bursa. Cumalıkızık is an early Ottoman-period area which has become popular by its famous historical village houses; these are being preserved under a restoration project undertaken by the municipality of the county. Although most of them are still a dwelling for the villagers, some of them have been restored to offer village style breakfasts and local dishes. The local brunch in the village’s historical texture, along with the village crafts displayed for sale are favorite for our international students.
Following our visit to Cumalıkızık, we head for Bursa, the first Ottoman capital which is distinguished by its Ulu Mosque, Green Tomb, Silk Bazaar, and the famous dish of İskender Kebab - prepared from grilled meat cut into thin strips and served over pieces of pita bread with hot tomato sauce. Commonly served with yogurt… The students like to discover the taste of this traditional Turkish dish. Here are some visual impressions of the excursion.

Excursion to Ephesus and the Antique City of Bergama
A historical sightseeing for our international students which has been one of the most popular excursions...
The tour gives a start with a visit to the House of Virgin Mary situated on a mountain nearby Ephesus which then proceeds on a guided tour to the archeological remains of the ancient city of Ephesus located in Selçuk, a small town near Kuşadası - a touristic resort in Western Turkey. The historic Marble Road, Temple of Artemis, Celsus Library, and the ancient theatre are just among the most famous sites that are passed by where students enjoy taking snapshots.
On our way to Bergama, students make a short visit to the onyx factory where they are given a quick handicraft demonstration in the workshop.
The fascinating panorama of the Acropolis in the ancient city of Bergama is the final destination of the excursion. The scenic view at the high and steep hill top reached by a finucular cable car is the most exciting part of the excursion. Students enjoyed wandering around the ruins of the monumental temples and capture the most beautiful view of this ancient site.
